The Košice Basin is one of the most important geothermal sites in Central Europe.
It is also the most promising area among the twenty-six identified geothermal regions in Slovakia suitable for energy utilization. In this region, Geoterm Košice, a.s. owns the most productive geothermal wells in the country.
After the completion of the heat pipeline in 2026, the company will deliver clean energy to Tepláreň Košice, a.s. (TEKO), which will subsequently distribute it through its own network and the network of Tepelné hospodárstvo Košice, s.r.o. to seventy-eight thousand households in Slovakia’s second largest city.
Energy from a local, domestic source
The company is currently preparing the drilling of three additional geothermal wells. These are expected to help the region with the highest industrial greenhouse gas emissions in Slovakia reduce its CO₂ output.
