In Slovakia, geologists have identified 26 areas of interest for the utilization of geothermal energy.<\/h2>\n

Geothermal Resources <\/strong> in the Energy Sector <\/span><\/h2>\n

So far, around 150 geothermal sources have been documented in Slovakia, comprising both drilled wells and naturally flowing springs <\/h3>\n

Sere\u010f<\/h2>\n

The geothermal water, with a temperature of 66 \u00b0C, is used for heating of nearly 1,000 residential units, as well as a school, cultural centre, and high-school. <\/span><\/p>\n

The geothermal source covers up to 45 percent of the annual heat demand in the district heating connected to the block boiler house, where the geothermal source is integrated. Galantaterm is one of the first companies in Slovakia to use geothermal energy for the production of hot water and for heating. Through the district heating system, it supplies heat to approximately 1,400 apartments in the Sever housing estate, as well as for the local school and the hospital in Galanta.<\/p>\n

Geothermal water with a temperature of 78 \u00b0C is extracted from two wells, each with a depth of approximately 2,100 metres.<\/p>\n

In \u0160a\u013ea, a 1.8-kilometre-deep well with water at 70 \u00b0C is used for heating. Geothermal energy accounts for almost one-third of the total annual heat production at the main gas boiler plant. In combination with a heat pump, geothermal energy serves as the primary heat source, operating at maximum capacity throughout the year.<\/p>\n

The original gas boilers are used only as peak-load sources or as backup when required. This ecological energy source saves approximately 843,000 cubic metres of natural gas annually and reduces CO\u2082 emissions by around 1,662 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n

Ve\u013ek\u00fd Meder<\/h2>\n

Ve\u013ek\u00fd Meder has long been using two geothermal sources for its thermal spa. In addition to filling the pools with thermal water, the city also employs them for energy purposes, providing heating and hot water for the spa facilities. In 2015, another well was drilled in the town, nearly 2.5 kilometres deep, which now supplies energy\/heat within the municipal district heating system.<\/p>\n

The water, with a wellhead temperature of 92 \u00b0C, provides heat for residential buildings as well as for schools, a children\u2019s home, a cultural centre, a polyclinic, and kindergartens. The project helps to save around one million cubic metres of natural gas annually and produces 84 percent of the annnual output of the city\u2019s central heating plant.<\/p>\n

Podh\u00e1jska<\/h2>\n

The original geothermal well from 1973, producing water at 82 \u00b0C, supplies not only the thermal spa but also a greenhouse complex. In 1986, it was complemented by a reinjection well, enabling the reinjection of the geothermal water back into the underground reservoir.<\/p>\n

Currently, the reinjection well is used only partially to meet the needs of a two-hectare greenhouse facility. Podh\u00e1jska remains the only geothermal energy project in Slovakia with a fully functional reinjection system for the extracted geothermal water.<\/p>\n
